Kara and Mark were winners of my 2019 Spring Engagement Session Giveaway. Mark is an avid outdoors man, able to hike through the woods for days at a time with ease, and the two of them really wanted to show their love for the outdoors through their engagement photos. This led us to Cascade Locks, OR.
Just off of I-84 is Government Cove Lookout, one of my favorite places to shoot because of the absolutely gorgeous views of the gorge, (see what I did there?) Cascade Locks is a small town know for the Bridge of the Gods, supreme bike trails, and of course the East Wind Drive In. (Where the ice cream is worth the wait.)
I met up with Kara and Mark just before sunset and started the short hike up the hill. As we walked Kara and Mark talked about how they were still deciding between a big wedding and an elopement. (Spoiler alert – they had an amazing elopement in the woods, true to Marks style!) :)
Once at the top we got stunning views of the setting sun. They were fearless – posing on various rock cliffs without hesitation. I was even able to capture some images with film – something I’ve been exploring more.
Karas red jumpsuit really popped against the greens of the setting. I tell all my couples that you really can’t dress up too much. There’s just something about the clash of formal wear against the outdoors that create stunning images.
At the top we laid out a blanket and captured some detail shots. We were lucky to have the place nearly to ourselves! If you're looking to have your photos done here -- you're best bet is to come on a school night.
We wrapped up at the top and continued to take images on our way back down --- you really can’t take a bad picture in Government Cove! If you plan to make a visit here be aware that there are no facilities on location, the nearest would be in the downtown area of Cascade Locks. The hike is nothing tremendous, but good footwear is recommended. It's a great place for families and elderly adventurers!
Until next time!
